Hi Danny, A partial separation of the placenta from the uterine wall is not uncommon and will cause bleeding in the pregnancy. Sometimes it will get larger and result unfortunately in a miscarriage and fetal death. However, often enough, it is just a small separation and the pregnancy continues totally fine. I hope that this will be the case for you. As far as I know there is nothing to do to prevent this from happening and the cause is unknown, unless there was some direct physical trauma like a car accident, or serious fall. You will need to do another ultrasound to find out the future. If bleeding gets more severe, then it is likely that the pregnancy will end. Hopefully, all will be well and the bleeding will stop. All the best.
