The situation presently is such: If you birth at home and go to the hospital within 24 hours, you will receive the maanak lida, but you will be hospitalized for at least 12 hours. The only hospitals that let you out before 12 hours and give you the maanak lida are Asaf Harofe and Kaplan (Rechovot). They are choosing this option and many women are taking advantage of this and coming from the central areas and Jerusalem to them after homebirths so they can get the money entitled them and leave as soon as possible. It usually takes from 2-5 hours. They are usually very nice, except the last couple I sent to Asaf Harofe met with a young pediatrician who told them that she thinks that this new trend to homebirth is the "pollution of society". That was a very biased and insulting comment to make to a new parents who are joyously celebrating the birth of their child and are responsible and informed and choose homebirth as the safest and best option for the birth of their child, as they see it.
