Active baby--fast heartbeat

When a baby moves a lot, this is a sign of a healthy baby, and just as our heartbeat rises when we run or walk a flight of stairs, so the baby will have a fast heartbeat during and right after a period of activity. This is a good sign of a healthy baby. A baby in distress doesn't move much or stops moving hours before a catastrophe. When there is a consistently high heartbeat on a baby that doesn't move, this is a possible indicator of fetal distress, and needs to be evaluated. Your friend just happended to be monitored during a period of activity, and will be released from the hospital (hopefully) when the baby calms down and the heartbeat goes backto normal. Too bad that she wasted her time and energy to begin with by going to the hospital. I hope that she won't fall victim to misinterpreting of the monitor or the common scenario of "no one wanting to take responsibility to sign her out" or "why don't you stay for supervision" or" well you're here and it's quiet now and you have two centimeters dilation and 90% effacement so let's give you just a little pitocin or break the water and you'll have the baby soon enough".
