at first its only saline waters, so they can put any medicine they want. they not allways tell you what they put inside. they can put in sugar water, instead of just letting you to eat and drink during labour
this is not good because
it can rise your sugars too much and cause exhaustion for you and baby after birth
it can cause you retening too much waters, and have you engorged make problems to breastfeed
another reason: they put in pitocin to rush your labour to rush things along. and of course they mostly will not bother telling you
having pitocin can risk your baby getting in distress as the harash labour suffocates the baby
being hooked on iv is extremely uncomfortable to most women. this discomfort can cause longer and more painful laobur.
when I had my first in the hospital I had no epdiural. I flatly refused the iv. I admire any woman who could labour without pain medication even she is hooked on iv, since its way more painful when you have a heavy pole and a needle stuck in your arm
