You are doing the right thing by taking this seriously- having someone you feel comfortable with professionally and personally will make a big difference in your birth. It seems that you already have a few names of very experienced midwives which is a good start. I would meet two or three and see how you feel. When it is the right one you will know it. From your list, I only know Ilana Shemesh and have been very happy with her; I met her and didn't look further. When we first met Ilana, I found that our attitudes about birth matched and felt that I could trust her completely to avoid interventions. Her many years of experience as a midwife focused on natural birth as well as in home deliveries were also very comforting. In my births, it turned out that until the actual delivery, my husband and I did fine on our own together and I appreciated it very much that Ilana adapted to our needs by remaining very much in the background, allowing us privacy. It was almost like she wasn't there, even though she was very much there when I needed guidance. I know from others, though, that she can be very different depending on the needs of the couple and I think this is very important. When you meet with people, have your checklist/ birthplan but also trust your instincts. I would also recommend making sure that your partner or whomever will be important to you in your birth be comfortable with your choice as well to ensure that you will work well together. Good Luck with the pregnancy and the birth!
